Chris Salter
Chris Salter is an artist, full professor of computation arts at Concordia University in Montreal and Co-Director of the Hexagram network for Research-Creation in Media Arts and Technology. His work has been seen all over the world at the Venice Architecture Biennale, Barbican Centre, Chronus Art Center Shanghai, Wiener Festwochen, Berliner Festspiele, Muffathalle, Vitra Design Museum, National Art Museum of China, among many others. He is the author of Entangled (2010) and Alien Agency (2015), both from MIT Press. His new book on machine and human sensing will appear from MIT Press in 2020.

Ethical Futurity or Raging against the Anthropocene
Democracy seems to be crumbling. Migration from countries torn by war and strife appears to be at an all-time high. The earth increasingly is overheating while the new cognitive industries continually push ever-newer technologies of surveillance capitalism that will leave us stranded inside social media and computer-driven logic 24/7. This talk puts forwards a simple question in response to these crises: What ethical role can artists working with contemporary science and technology play in this new anthropocenic world; one that appears to be politically-socially-technically out of control ?
